Inspired by a performance of Wagner´s Parsifal in Tampere, the Finnish Wagner Society was founded in Turku in 1991. To date, the Society has more than 750 members, from all over Finland. We also have a magazine (60-80 pages per issue including colour pictures) called WAGNERIAANI (The Wagnerian), published twice a year. The main language of the publication is Finnish with some articles in English and Swedish. One issue can be ordered at a cost of 6,50 euro, plus delivery. Our publication is not available on the Internet, but we have translated two articles in English. The first one tells about Mr. Martin Wegelius, founder of the first Finnish Wagner society (Wagnerföreningen in 1898). The other article deals with the late Prof. Götz Friedrich's reception for the Finnish Wagner Society when his Rheingold had its premiere in Helsinki. In addition to this, the Society organizes lectures and seminars on Wagner, his music and ideas in the main towns Turku and Helsinki. We also make opera and concert tours to domestic and European Opera Houses. The Finnish Wagner Society is a member of Richard Wagner Verband International e.V.
